The Backland
The Backland is a unique last-man-standing trail race held near the Texas-Oklahoma border, featuring a mix of trail and road running. Participants must complete a 4.5-mile loop within one hour, with the race continuing until only one runner remains. The last person standing wins a $500 cash prize, a trophy, and a six-pack of beer or root beer.
All finishers receive a long sleeve shirt, and those completing specific mileage milestones earn special belt buckles. The event is limited to 37 participants, and lodging options are available at the nearby Walnut Creek Resort. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
Always double-check with the organizer's website – things can change, and we might have sprinted past a few details!
