The Backland is a unique last-man-standing trail race held near the Texas-Oklahoma border, featuring a challenging course primarily on trails. Participants must complete a 4.5-mile loop within one hour, with the last person remaining crowned the champion. The event offers a $1,000 cash prize, trophies, and special belt buckles for those who achieve significant mileage milestones.
Runners receive a long sleeve shirt and a beverage upon finishing. The race is limited to 38 participants, and there are opportunities for camping or cabin stays at the nearby Walnut Creek Resort. Discounts are available for active military and first responders. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
